Ecclesiastes: To Everything There Is A Season
The theme of this painting is derived from Ecclesiates 3:1-8 (Kohellet). The client is a guitarist, and we both fondly recalled the 1960s pop version by The Birds' ("To Everything"). This selection is traditionally read during the Festival of Sukkot -- which occurs during Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. Hence, the colour scheme of the piece is reflective of Autumn leaves. The circular devices give form to the wisdom of the words, that all facets of life occur in cycles.
Acrylic paint, ink, tissue and guitar strings on Clayboard. November 1999.
Private collection of Howard Winokuer, Charlotte.
